This scholarship award is named in honor of Tai A. Thurman.

The winner will be selected on the documentation and recommendations submitted.  The winner will be honored in Spring 2024.

  1. Must plan to pursue post high school studies (2-or 4-year college/university) or be currently enrolled in a 2-or 4-year college/university.
  2. Must plan to major in Education or have declared Education as a major.
  3. Must maintain Education as a major for the duration of the scholarship.
  4. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on an unweighted scale as well as maintain a 3.0 GPA.
  5. Must be a resident of a Dallas-Fort Worth County.
  6. ​Must not plan to join another NPHC affiliated Sorority while receiving the award.

  2. Upload the following documents via a shared Google folder:
    1. Digital photo (headshot)  in JPEG or PNG format
    2. Official high school transcript with rank and unweighted GPA (4.0 scale) or official college/university transcript and proof of declared Education major
    3. Two letters of recommendation:   (1) from your school counselor or teacher and (2) from an employer, auxiliary/advisory/club sponsor (not a part of your high school).  Recommendations should be addressed to the Scholarship Committee of Kappa Zeta with a signature and contact information.
    4. In 500 words or less, based on your future profession in education, how do you plan on impacting the next generation of students?
    5. Student resume
    6. Documentation of volunteer hours, awards, etc. with dates of activities and total hours calculated
  3. Attach and send documents to the Kappa Zeta Scholarship Committee via your shared Google folder. To organize and share your scholarship documents via Google Drive for the Scholarship Committee: Create a folder in your Google Drive. Update the share settings on your folder to include that "anyone with the link" may view. Your main folder should be titled: First Last_23-24 KZ Scholarships (ex: Jane Doe_23-24 KZ Scholarships). Inside of the main folder, you will create and name five (5) additional folders titled as listed on the student checklist.  Click here to download the student checklist. Send the folder link to [email protected] by 11:59 PM on Friday, March 31, 2024. Please title your email subject Tai A.
